Obituary for Donald Wayne Abbott

Donald Wayne Abbott, 79, husband of Kay Abbott, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 at his home. He was born May 12, 1938 in Georgetown, KY to the late Luther Glenn and Geneva Mae Brockman Abbott. He was a member of Georgetown First United Methodist Church. Don graduated from Garth High School, was a member of N.R.A., and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a volunteer of the American Cancer Society, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Don was an avid hunter and an antique enthusiast. He retired from IBM after 34 years.

Along with his wife of 56 years, he is survived by daughters, Cassie (Michael) Wiliams of Melbourne, FL, Dona (Bill) Kelley of Georgetown, KY, and Chrystal (Matt) Foster of Lexington, KY, grandchildren, Ashley and Sean Williams, Mason, Morgan, and Olivia Kelley, and Hunter Foster. Don is also survived by a number of cousins, including a close cousin, Bill Abbott of Zwingle, Iowa.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm Wednesday, at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home. Services will be 1:00pm Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Price Smith, Scott Gould, Clint Stith, Don Porter, Mark Stubbs, James Holland, Daniel Smith, and Stephen Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay McKnight, Jerome Redfearn, Jimmy Richardson, Donald Wayne Meeks, Ron Hastings, and Rodney Humble. A special thanks to Signature Healthcare, Martha Wells and her caregivers, Dr. Rachel Harper, Karen Mulholland, and Dr. Charles Ray, and Bluegrass Hospice Care of Cynthiana, KY. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, 11902 Brinley Avenue, Suites 100-101, Louisville, KY 40243.
