Obituary for Glen Kirk Monday

Glen Kirk Monday, 51, died Monday after a long battle with the rare disease, Aggressive Natural Killer-cell Leukemia. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on January 15, 1966. As a young boy, he won the Florida Boys State Championship in Chess. Over the years he worked a variety of jobs including tire retreader, roofer, and service dog trainer. Primarily, he was a salesman. He could have sold bbq ribs to a woman wearing white gloves or ice cubes to eskimos. He was also a talented brick and block mason. Many, many of his projects can be seen throughout central Kentucky. He also helped to rebuild parts of Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina.

He was rarely seen without a cigarette, a cup of black coffee, and some scratch-offs. He was known for both his body and mind running a hundred miles a minute. He could never sit idle. His mouth moved just as fast, often leading to confusion among his listeners.

After a lifetime of drug use, he found Christianity. He said having God in his life was the best high he'd ever found. Even during the worst of times, he thanked God for every day.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Williams, his mother, Dorothy Swafford, his daddy, Homer Swafford, three sisters, Stephanie Haley, Ava Corbin, and Jessica Swafford, three nephews, two nieces, and several distant relatives. He also left behind his beloved pit bull, Otie who he called his second son, a stepdaughter, Amber Miller, and special friends, Crystal and Bobbie Bruin, Justin Williams, and Ruby Votaw. He was preceded in death by his hero of a big brother, Brian Lewis, his human-like dog companion, Grog, his father, Glenn Monday, and his wife, Cindy Miller Monday. Cindy died just 10 days before Kirk.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am at Tucker, Yocum, & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown. Graveside service will be 11:00 am at Georgetown Cemetery with Dr. Billy Strother officiating. A celebration of life event will occur in the near future.
