Obituary for Joann Taylor Duncan Sharpe

Joann Taylor Duncan Sharpe, owner of the Georgetown Antique Mall,
passed away on February 26, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was
born in Scott County (Georgetown) KY, on September 8, 1932, the only
child of the late James R. "Rex" Duncan and Maggie Mae Taylor Duncan.
She graduated high school from Great Crossings School in 1950 and attended
the University of Kentucky.

Mrs. Sharpe was active in many organizations to help youth and better
her community throughout her life. Joann was first and foremost a
mother, raising her farm family to have good values and strong ethics.
She believed in community as an extension of her family, who have
resided on the family farms in Scott County since the late 1700's for
nine generations. She was an active leader of many 4-H youth groups
throughout 1960's and 70's. She served on the Georgetown Renaissance
Board for ten years, and was Regent of Big Spring Chapter of The
Daughters of American Revolution. She was a member of the Scott County
Historical Society, and President in 2012. She was active in the
Downtown Georgetown Association, the Scott County Genealogy Society,
and the Georgetown/Scott County Antique Dealers Association. She was
awarded for 65 years service in Homemakers in 2017, and was awarded
the most individual volunteer hours in the county serving as President
of the White Sulpher Homemakers for 39 years, . She served as Chairman
of the Scott County Beauty Pageant for 13 years. She was Secretary of
the National Shorthorn Association, active in other beef cattle
associations, during her children's statewide show and fair
activities. She opened an antique shop in downtown Georgetown in the
early 1970's and then established The Georgetown Antique Mall, the
largest antique mall in Kentucky and one of the largest in this nation
at the time, bringing much tourism to Georgetown/Scott County. She
enjoyed her customers from all 50 states and many foreign countries,
Joann Sharpe took great pride and joy in her family, her friends, her
local business and her contributions to her community.

Mrs. Sharpe was preceded in death by her youngest son Joseph Waits
Sharpe in 1986. Survivors include her children: James Ray (Dr. Martha
Bird) Sharpe, Jan Duncan Sharpe, John Gatewood (Shawna) Sharpe,
Jeanine Taylor (Alfred) Glass;
the grand-daughter she raised, Sage Autumn (Bob) Jump; her
grandchildren: Jessica Rae (Tim) Cummings, Jennifer Wilbers (Pete)
Noftsger,
Joshua Duncan Wilbers, Jacob McClain Sharpe, John Beckham Sharpe, Joe
B. Glass, Jett Taylor Glass, and Jennifer Glass (Brent) Perry; ten
great-grandchildren, her nephews, one niece, and her first cousin
Albert Hart, Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2018, from 5pm to 8pm at Tucker,
Yocum and Wilson Funeral Home. Mrs. Sharpe's service will be 1pm,
Saturday, March 3 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service
at Georgetown Cemetery with pallbearers being her grandsons Josh
Wilbers, Jacob Sharpe, Joe B. Glass, Jett Glass, John Beckham Sharpe,
and great grandson Ian Taylor Cummings.
