Obituary for Katie Elizabeth Congleton Parker

Katie Elizabeth Congleton Parker, 87, formerly of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at her home in Louisville.
She was born March 26, 1931, in Scott County, Kentucky, to Hargis and Zola McKnight Congleton. After graduating from Oxford High School, she worked as a bank teller. She met her husband, Everett M. Parker, at the College Grill in Georgetown. They were married 53 years.

Katie was a polio survivor, contracting the disease in 1953. After her recovery, Katie and Everett left Kentucky for many other places, moving 26 times during their marriage. Katie made one more move on her own, coming back to Kentucky in 2012.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Parker, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Lori Parker Pritchett, of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Dana, Maxine, Truman, Judah, Fenton and Sadie; one great-grandchild, Naomi; and two sisters, Janet Hoerle of Ohio and Virginia Shackelford of Frankfort. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett and one brother, Martin Congleton.

Visitation is Friday, July 27, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson, 320 W Main St., Georgetown, KY, 40324 with Rev. James Shackelford officiating. Burial will follow the service at Georgetown Cemetery.
