Obituary for Mary White Lewis

Mary White Lewis, 89, widow of Wendell Lewis, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Lexington. She was born the eldest daughter to the late Claude Henry White and Eunice Hawkins White on October 3, 1927 in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Mary attended Wesley United Methodist Church and was baptized at First Baptist Church. Mary attended Boston School in her elementary years and was a graduate of Ed Davis High School in Georgetown. She attended Kentucky State University in Frankfort for one year.

Mary moved with her husband and children to Chicago in 1958 and resided there until 1976 when she returned to Georgetown where she remained until her death.

She was an employee of Spiegel Catalog warehouse in Chicago, Illinois in an administrative position for 17 years. She worked at John Graves Memorial Hospital and Georgetown Community Hospital until her retirement.

One of Mary's hobbies was crocheting. She created beautiful afghans for each female in the family. She was also an accomplished seamstress, loved crocket, and enjoyed cross word puzzles.

She is survived by her sister, Helen W. Mitchell, Greenbelt, Maryland, daughter, Argolda V. Jackson, Chicago, Illinois, Carl A. Vinegar, Lexington, and Wendell H. Lewis, Georgetown, grandchildren, Taritha Jackson-Colvin, Adam O. Dawson, and Mariama M. Dawson, 7 great- grandchildren, aunt, Aileen W. Butler, Covington, nieces, one nephew, one great nephew, three grand nieces, and a host of cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 01:00pm until 02;00pm with service beginning at 02:00pm, all at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Freddie Patterson and Rev. Rodney Mason officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gary Talbert, Dwight Butler, Tim Mitchell, Joseph McIntyre, Reggie Happy, and Rocky Hawkins. Honorary bearers are Calvin Butler,Adam O. Dawson, Lamont Butler, Darvin Butler, Jamaal Carrington, Crystal Talbert, Rodney Vinegar, Steve Vinegar, and Terry Vinegar.
