Obituary for William Franklin Wilson

William Franklin Wilson, age 82, the husband of Mary Brice Fisher Wilson,
passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017, in Lexington , Kentucky . He was born to the late Frank and Mary Birch Wilson, in Lexington on April 23, 1935. Bill was in the Army Reserve, a member of First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, was a graduate of Georgetown College, where he is in the Georgetown College Hall of Fame, was a Kentucky Colonel and a former chairman of the Scott County Parks and Rec.

Bill spent most his life Coaching High School football. In 1962 he was the Athletic Director and Assistant Coach at Versailles High School when the team won the State Football Championship. Bill was a legendary SCHS football coach. He was Scott County High School 's first football coach and the builder of its first KHSAA state championship. Bill was a charter member of Scott County 's athletics hall of fame in 2008, along with his 1975 championship team. He coached from 1966 to 1977, with the record of 91 wins, 35 losses and 1 tie. Bill's teams were dominant from 1973 to 1976 with a 41-8 mark. Under Coach Wilson Scott County went 13-2 and won the state's Class AA championship in 1975. It was an all-time memorable final in Kentucky history, Scott County trailed in the forth 14-0, with Bill's coaching skills the Scott County Football team won 22-20. Only the present Coach Jim McKee, who is in his 21st season, has led the team longer.

In 2015, William F. Wilson was honored when the Scott County 's practice and training facility was named the Bill Wilson Fieldhouse.

In addition to his wife, Mary Brice, Bill is survived by his daughter, Beth Fryman (Andy Smith) of Georgetown, grandchildren, Taryn Fryman (Dustin Vest) of Stamping Ground and Brice Fryman of Georgetown, and great grandchild, Audrey Ruth Branson. He is also survived by special cousins, Alvin (Audrey) Moore of Versailles .

Funeral Services for Coach Bill Wilson will be 11:00amThursday, September 7, 2017
at the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown with Pastor Andrew Singh officiating. Burial will follow the service at Georgetown Cemetery with the 2017 Senior Football players as pallbearers. Honorary bearers will be The 1975 Scott County State Football Championship team and all the present and former members and coaches of the Scott County High School Football program.

The visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5 to 9 at the SCHS Auditorium.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Scott County Touchdown Club (designated to: Bill Wilson Fieldhouse Fund), 1080 Cardinal Drive, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
